Dr. Jost Henkel was born in Düsseldorf in 1909, the grandson of the Company’s founder Fritz Henkel , Sr. He graduated from high school in 1928 after attending the Rethel Gymnasium in Düsseldorf (today: Heinrich Heine Comprehensive School) . He subsequently completed a commercial apprenticeship in Bremen and began the study of economics in 1930, attending universities in Bonn, Berlin and Hamburg. In 1932, he received a degree in economics and earned his doctorate in political science in Cologne in 1934.
In 1938, Dr. Jost Henkel was appointed as Managing Director o f Henkel &Cie. GmbH and was appointed to the Management Board of Henkel & Cie. AG. On the occasion of his 25th service anniversary in 1958, Dr. Henkel was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by the Federal President.
Dr. Jost Henkel died unexpectedly in 1961 at the age of 51. His younger brother, the chemist Dr. Konrad Henkel , took over the chairmanship of the Executive Board on February 31, 1961.
